Year: 2025

Your EM-R Negotiations Team met with district leadership today to present our full set of member-driven proposals, developed over months of surveys, listening sessions, and committee work. The district heard our priorities and will respond with their proposals at our next session on August 21, when we will also begin reviewing the costing model — a step that will move us into financial discussions earlier than in past cycles. Additional bargaining dates are set for August 28, September 17, September 24, October 8, and October 14. We remain optimistic that both sides are committed to a timely settlement that addresses the needs and priorities of our members.

6 of our members attended the Summer Leadership Institue offered by Education Minnesota in St. Cloud recently. Those members include Maria Le Selmer, Corey Knighton, Myriam Castro-Franco, Chenayi Shava, Jake Devine and Lauren Miller. Corey attended the Certified Negotiator training. Maria, Myriam, Lauren and Chenayi attended the Member Rights Advocacy training and Jake attended organizing fundamentals training.

Education Minnesota offers this leadership institute every other year. We hope to see many more of our members trained to serve as leaders in our work.

Education Minnesota-Roseville members Dan Beck, Miriam Castro-Franco, Maria Le Seller, Lauren Miller, Silvia Vasquez, Todd Richter and Greg Martinson attended the 2025 Education Minnesota Representative Conversion on April 25 and 26 in Bloomington, MN. This annual convention is where Education Minnesota elects new leaders sets the priorities of the union for the next year and address statewide and national issues.

2025 made the stakes for this event very high. We discussed pensions, health care and the difficult national work of addressing the actions of the Trump administration. We elected a new President for Education Minnesota, Monica Byron. We elected a new Vice-President Marty Fridgen and a new Secretary-Treasurer Ryan Fiereck. There was powerful debate about our priorities and we had some amazing speeches from the Chair of the West Virginia merged Teachers Union as well as the Presidents of the NEA and the AFT.
