Ask questions, tell your story and learn about possible solutions to the student loan debt crisis in Minnesota at our first-ever Student Loan Debt Symposium!
What: Student Loan Debt Symposium
When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9
At this event, we plan to meet with state policymakers who have been advocates for student debt relief and identify state-based solutions to this crisis. This meeting is our chance for us, as a union, to create a plan to move forward where we believe we have the most potential to make change — right here in Minnesota. Your voice, your story and your ideas are critical.
Education Minnesota will provide lunch, mileage reuimbursement and hotel rooms for those traveling from greater Minnesota. More details to come!
MPORTANT UPDATE: Due to the (extremely) high chance of rain, we are moving tomorrow’s Invest in Success Rally for Public Education to the Capitol Rotunda.
The program will still begin at 1 p.m. The rally will conclude with the delivery of nearly 1,000 handwritten notes from educators and other supporters of public schools to the governor’s office.
We will still have sign-making, note-writing and social media activities at Education Minnesota’s office, 41 Sherburne Ave. in St. Paul, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Food trucks and bathroom facilities also will be available outside the Education Minnesota building.
Come rally for the schools our kids deserve with parents, students, community members and hundreds of educators just like you.
Spread the word! We hope to see you tomorrow!

Teacher/school administrator friends, WE NEED YOU TODAY. The preliminary draft of the pension bill is U-G-L-Y. The commission will take action on TRA reforms TONIGHT. We need you now!!
Apparently this legislature is hellbent on socking it to active members. After shouldering 45% of the burden in the 2010 reforms, this new bill dumps another 66% of the cost onto current teachers & school admin. Employers only bear 13% of the costs. So much for sharing in the responsibility.
And with a giant surplus, there is no additional funding to offset these costs.
Perhaps they haven’t heard of the teacher shortage? IT’S REAL, folks!
PLEASE contact the pension commission members and tell them that this is unacceptable. Indicate your support for the very FAIR and BALANCED proposal set forth by the TRA board. Thank you. Here’s how:
