Education Minnesota Roseville’s Pat Moriarty was nominated this year for Education Minnesota’s Teacher of the Year. Pat has led the music department at RAHS for years and has developed an outstanding music department. He is a highly dedicated professional with a tremendous sense of care for the students he has directed.

New materials are now available on Education Minnesota’s website that highlight why it’s so important for educators and other public workers to stick together as corporate interests and lawmakers try to destabilize labor unions.
Resources include background on the Janus case, videos highlighting the power of our union, information on what happened in Wisconsin and Iowa when they lost collective bargaining and more.
Minnesota’s labor movement and our allies are also joining together on Feb. 24 for the Working People’s Day of Action rally at the state Capitol. It is one of 11 similar events happening around the nation to stand up for equitable pay, affordable health care, quality schools, vibrant communities and a secure future for all of us.
Oral arguments for the Janus case are scheduled for Feb. 26 before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Public Sector Union Alliance will launch a digital advertising campaign Tuesday as part of its work to build a new narrative about public services, workers and their unions.
The ads will appear on social media sites, YouTube, Pandora, Hulu and other video partners until the Supreme Court makes a decision in the Janus case.

Education Minnesota Roseville’s Greg Ueland is a nominee for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Greg, who has been an AVID Teacher and a coach of Volleyball and Track is a teacher who is very involved in being a force for support and accountability for the entire school. Greg is a teacher who is very involved in the building and one of the many awesome teachers in Education Minnesota Roseville. He joins 166 other candidates for this year’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year Program. Good luck Mr. Ueland!

The NEA Representative Assembly, the largest conference of teachers in the United States is happening in downtown Minneapolis this summer and they will need volunteers! The conference runs for June 30 to July 5. Volunteers are paid 40 dollars a day as a stipend, plus parking and Breakfast, Lunch and snacks. Central Park teacher Maria Le was one of 38 teachers nationwide to receive the California Casualty / NEA Foundation’s Award for Teaching Excellence. As part of the award Maria was recently presented with a check for $650 by Calfornia Casualty (NEA Partner) to be used by Central Park Elementary. Maria will also be honored at the NEA Foundation’s Salute to Excellence in Education Gala next February in Washington, D. C.
The California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence are unique: in addition to being recognized for excellence in instructional and professional practice, awardees are nominated by their peers or their NEA state affiliate for their dedication to the profession, community engagement, professional development, attention to diversity, and advocacy for fellow educators.
